Kedarnath & Badrinath — Do Dham

Package ID: TG-IN-001614

Kedarnath · Badrinath — The two Garhwal Himalayan shrines of the Char Dham, run at a realistic, honest pace — and we lead with the honesty, because this is a demanding pilgrimage, not a holiday. Kedarnath sits at ~3,580 m and is reached by a roughly 16–18 km uphill trek from Gaurikund (or by pony, palki or, weather and quota permitting, helicopter); Badrinath is road-connected but high. Both are open only from around late April/May to October and close for winter. Weather, landslips, altitude and physical fitness genuinely govern this trip, and we plan and brief it as the serious mountain journey it is.

  4. Kedarnath Temple darshan & evening aarti

The heart and the hardest part of the trip. From Gaurikund it is a long, steep 16–18 km climb to the Kedarnath temple beneath the Kedar peaks — on foot, or by pony, palki (palanquin) or helicopter where the weather and daily quota allow. We arrange whichever you choose and are completely honest that even the pony option is a full, high-altitude day. The reward is the ancient stone shrine and its evening aarti in one of the most dramatic settings in the Himalaya.

Good to know

Important information

  • This is a physically demanding high-altitude pilgrimage. Kedarnath involves a ~16–18 km uphill trek (or pony/palki/helicopter); reasonable fitness and a doctor's clearance for anyone with heart/lung/BP conditions are essential.
  • Char Dham registration (and biometric/health checks in some years) is mandatory; we advise on and assist with current requirements.
  • The shrines open only around late April/May to October and close for winter — dates are set each year and we plan to them.
  • Weather, landslips and the Joshimath–Badrinath one-way control gates genuinely affect timings; buffer days are wise and helicopter tickets are quota-limited and weather-dependent.
  • Accommodation on this route is pilgrim-grade and basic, especially at Kedarnath — comfort expectations should be honest.

Questions

Package FAQs

How fit do I need to be?

Genuinely fit for Kedarnath — it is a long, steep, high-altitude ascent. Ponies and palkis help but it is still a full mountain day at ~3,580 m. Anyone with heart, lung or blood-pressure conditions should get a doctor's clearance first. Badrinath is road-connected and far easier.

Can we take a helicopter to Kedarnath?

Sometimes — heli services run subject to weather and a limited daily quota, and tickets can be hard to secure in peak season. We help arrange them but cannot guarantee a slot, and flights are cancelled in poor weather. We're upfront about this rather than over-promising.

When is the pilgrimage open?

Roughly late April/May to October; both temples close for winter on dates set each year. May–June and September–October are the usual windows; the monsoon (Jul–Aug) brings real landslip risk on these roads.

Is registration required?

Yes — Char Dham registration is mandatory, and some years add biometric or health checks. We advise on the current process and assist with it.

What are the hotels like?

Pilgrim-grade and simple throughout, and basic guesthouse/dormitory standard at Kedarnath itself. This is the nature of the route; we set honest expectations and book the best available.
