Kishangarh, near Ajmer, is the birthplace of the exquisite Kishangarh school of miniature painting — its famous "Bani Thani" portrait is called India’s Mona Lisa. Today it is also India’s marble capital, with a surreal white marble-dust "dumping yard" that has become a striking photography spot beside the old fort and lakeside palace.
