Amritsar & the Golden Temple
Package ID: TG-IN-001415
Golden Temple · Wagah · Jallianwala Bagh — A short, deeply moving city break built around the Golden Temple — Sri Harmandir Sahib — the spiritual centre of the Sikh faith and one of the most genuinely welcoming sacred places anywhere, its langar feeding tens of thousands of all faiths free every day. Around it Amritsar holds the sobering memorial of Jallianwala Bagh, the theatrical Wagah border ceremony, and some of the best street food in India. We plan it to catch the temple at dawn and after dark, when the gold on the water is at its most extraordinary.

Straight to the heart of it. The Golden Temple at dusk, its gilded sanctum mirrored in the sacred pool as the lights come up and the kirtan drifts across the water, is one of the most moving sights in India — and among the most welcoming, open to all. The langar, the vast free community kitchen, is an experience in itself.

The afternoon turns to the theatrical, foot-stamping Beating Retreat ceremony at the Wagah India–Pakistan border, a patriotic spectacle best reached early for a seat. Amritsari street food fills the gaps.

Questions
Package FAQs
Is the Golden Temple open to non-Sikhs?
Completely — it is one of the most welcoming sacred places anywhere, open to all faiths, with the free langar serving everyone. You simply cover your head and remove your shoes. Dawn and after dark are the most beautiful times, and we plan for both.
Will the Wagah ceremony definitely happen?
It runs daily in normal times, but can be curtailed or closed at short notice for security or diplomatic reasons — we're honest about that. When it runs, arrive early for a seat; it is a genuine spectacle.
Is three nights enough?
Comfortably for Amritsar itself. Add a night if you want to fold in a day trip — the hill town of Dalhousie or the border pilgrimage sites — which we can arrange.
Is it good for families?
Very — it is safe, welcoming, walkable and full of food; children are moved by the temple and thrilled by the Wagah spectacle.
