Puri, Konark & Bhubaneswar
Package ID: TG-IN-001395
Bhubaneswar · Konark · Puri — Odisha's own golden triangle, compact and richly rewarding — the temple city of Bhubaneswar, the breathtaking 13th-century Sun Temple at Konark, and the great Jagannath pilgrimage town of Puri on the Bay of Bengal. It threads living devotion, world-class stone-carving and a proper beach finish into a short, easy circuit. We guide the temples respectfully — the inner sanctum of the Jagannath temple admits only Hindus, which we explain up front — and time Konark for the light that makes its chariot-wheel carvings sing.

Day 1 Arrive BhubaneswarAirport → Temples
- Transfer & hotel check-in
- Lingaraja Temple (view from the platform) & Mukteshwar
- Rajarani Temple & the old-city tanks
Bhubaneswar, the "temple city," once had thousands of shrines and still has hundreds. The great Lingaraja is the living heart (non-Hindus view it from a platform); the jewel-like Mukteshwar and the sculptural Rajarani show the Kalinga style at its finest. A gentle temple-rich first evening.
🛏 Overnight: Bhubaneswar
Day 2 Udayagiri & DhauliCaves → peace pagoda
- Udayagiri & Khandagiri Jain rock-cut caves
- Odisha State Museum
- Lunch
- Dhauli — the Ashokan edicts & Shanti Stupa (Kalinga war site)
A day of deeper history. The Udayagiri and Khandagiri caves were carved for Jain monks over two thousand years ago; Dhauli, on the Daya river, is where Emperor Ashoka's bloody Kalinga war led to his conversion to Buddhism — his rock edicts survive beside a white Japanese peace pagoda. Moving and historically extraordinary.

- Arrive Puri & check-in
- Puri beach evening
The trip's masterpiece. Konark's 13th-century Sun Temple, a UNESCO site, is conceived as the sun god's colossal chariot, its twenty-four carved stone wheels and straining horses among the supreme achievements of Indian art. Then the coastal Marine Drive down to Puri for a first evening on its long beach.
🛏 Overnight: Puri
Day 4 Puri — Jagannath & beachJagannath → coast
- Jagannath Temple morning darshan (Hindus; others view from Raghunandan Library rooftop)
- Breakfast
- Pipili appliqué-craft village
- Puri beach / optional Chilika Lake dolphin excursion
Puri's great Jagannath temple, one of the four Char Dham and home of the famous Rath Yatra chariot festival, is the devotional heart — its inner precincts admit only Hindus, and we honestly arrange the rooftop view for others. The craft village of Pipili dazzles with appliqué work; the afternoon is the beach, or an optional run to Chilika, Asia's largest brackish lagoon, for its Irrawaddy dolphins.

Good to know
Important information
- •The Jagannath temple's inner precinct at Puri admits Hindus only; non-Hindus get an excellent view from a nearby rooftop, which we arrange respectfully.
- •Temple dress codes apply and phones/cameras are restricted at Puri; pandas (temple guides) can be persistent — we advise on how to manage this honestly.
- •October–March is the pleasant window; the Rath Yatra (Jun/Jul) is spectacular but extraordinarily crowded.
- •Chilika Lake dolphin sightings are seasonal and never guaranteed.
- •Carry a government photo ID for temple areas.

Questions
Package FAQs
Can non-Hindus visit the Jagannath temple?
Not the inner precinct — entry there is restricted to Hindus. Everyone can see the temple superbly from the rooftop of the Raghunandan Library opposite, which we arrange, and enjoy the rest of the town freely.
Is Konark really the highlight?
For most travellers, yes — the Sun Temple is one of the great works of world architecture, and seeing it well repays the trip on its own. We time your visit for good light and can arrange a guide.
Is this good for families?
Yes — it is short, easy, mixes temples with a proper beach, and the crafts and Chilika dolphins engage children. Drives are short throughout.
Should we add Chilika Lake?
If you like birds and boats, yes — the lagoon's Irrawaddy dolphins and winter migratory birds are lovely, though sightings are never guaranteed. It adds a half to full day from Puri.
